Euro 2024 Key Battle: Aleksandar Mitrovic vs. John Stones
League champions in the Premier League and the Saudi Pro League respectively, the battle between John Stones and Aleksandar Mitrovic promises to be the most intriguing one England vs. Serbia will offer up.
Stones has battled illness and injury both this season and this week. Without the injured Harry Maguire, the Manchester City defender is beyond pivotal to Gareth Southgate's line-up and their chances of success in Germany.
Capped 72 times for his country, Stones will need all of his experience and nous to nullify Aleksandar Mitrovic — a bonafide Serbia legend.
Once of Fulham, now of Al Hilal, Mitrovic has 58 goals in 91 games for his country, including a last-minute strike away against Portugal that sent Serbia through to the 2022 World Cup.
The Saudi Pro League is obviously not close to the standard of the Premier League, but Mitrovic's physicality can overwhelm any opponent at any level. England will hope Stones can rise to the challenge.
